What is the System?
Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation refers to system of school based assessment that covers all aspects student’s development. The comprehensive component CCE takes care of assessment of all round development of the child’s personality. It includes assessment in scholastic and co-scholastic aspect in student’s growth. Students will be evaluated both in scholastic and Co-scholastic areas as per the guidelines & norms of the CBSE.
Examination Reforms and Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) in the Central Board of Secondary Education:
“The Central Board of Secondary Education introduced Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) in Primary Classes in 2004 (Circular No. 5/18/25/04). The achievement records and its formats was also circulated for Classes I to V with the objective of facilitating holistic learning in the school. The focus was on identifying the talents of the learner and empowering with positive inputs. The Board recommended a five point rating scale; it also recommended the elimination of the pass/fail system at the primary classes (Circular No. 31/04/21/05).
The performance of the students in the primary classes will also be shown in GRADES (5 point scale) as per previous practice. The grades will be given on the basis of performance of the students in all the 6 tests. The new grading system is given below in Table-1.

The Board has also followed it up by extending this scheme up to classes VI to VIII and developed a CCE card on School Based Assessment for the same Circular No./2/06). The scheme of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) will be now further strengthened in all affiliated schools from October 2009. The Class IX students will be assessed through the CCE by the school itself. The AEES has also proposed to strengthen the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation CCE) scheme from the academic session 2010-11 in all its schools and in classes from I to X as suggested by CBSE (APC-2009-10). So long as further instructions/changes are not received from CBSE the following pattern of examination will be followed in AEES in all the classes. As per the new pattern, students will be assessed in two areas - Scholastic and Co-scholastic. Cumulative Grade Point Average(CGPA) would also be reflected in the Statement of Subject wise Performance /Certificate of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation.

Part 2 : Co-scholastic areas (VI to X): Evaluation of this area deals with the collection of evidences regarding the changes which occur in the learner’s behaviour during the teaching learning process. Based on these evidences, interpretation and judgment, the progress of the learner is arrived at and decisions taken. There will be no written examination as far as co-scholastic area is concerned. Teachers in a group will observe the behavioural change in the learner and assign the grades. These areas consist of:
2.a Life skills : Thinking skills: Social skills, Emotional skills: Scientific Skills
2.b Attitudes and values Attitude towards –teachers, school mates, school property, school programmes, environment, value systems.
Part 3 Co-scholastic activities
3.a Skills (Any two of the following to be assessed): Literary and creative skills; Scientific skills; Aesthetic and performing art, clubs (eco club, health and wellness and others)
3.b Health and physical education (Any two of the following to be assessed): 1. Sports/indigenous sports; 2. NCC/NSS; . Scouting and guiding 4. Swimming; 5. Gymnastics; 6.Yoga 7. First –aid; 8. Gardening/Shramdan

C – Continuous C – Comprehensive E – Evaluation
Continuous stands for assessment of a student throughout the year, not just at the end of a term. It may be done formally or in an informal way using different techniques of evaluation . Comprehensive takes care of assessment of all round development of a child’s personality. A child will be assessed not only in terms of his knowledge about a subject but his participation in other activities also.
Broadly, we assess a child’s growth in two areas – Scholastic and Co-scholastic.
The term Scholastic refers to those aspects , which are related to intellect or the brain. It is related to the assessment of learners in curricular subjects. It includes assignments, projects, practical etc.

The term Co-scholastic refers to those aspects which are related to hand and heart.
How will the assessment be done ?
A school session is divided into two terms: First term – April to September. Second term – October to March.
Each term has two Formative Assessments (FA) and one Summative Assessment (SA). Syllabus covered in the first term will not be included in the second term.

FOR PRESENT CLASS IX & XI
FA 4 will be conducted on the similar lines. PSA—FROM CBSE BOARD……MARKS WILL BE GIVEN BY BOARD.
Syllabus for SA 2 (March 2014) is available on CBSE website and known to students also.
FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT (FA) The record of FA will be maintained by the class teacher and subject teachers.
Formative assessment includes all types of tests, formal and informal. Assessment can be done during the teaching process or after completing a unit. It includes :
This is the most traditional way of testing that is paper pen test based on the curriculum taught during the specified time period. The question paper of SA will be set by the CBSE. The centre of examination will be the child’s own school. Answer sheets will be checked by the school teachers.
GRADING SYSTEM: The performance of a child in scholastic area will be assessed in terms of marks. Marks will be known to the student but his report card will show grades only.
PROMOTION POLICY: Students getting grades D and above are eligible for the promotion in the next class.
Students getting grades E1 or E2 will be given three more chances by the board to get the qualifying grade. The student will prepare for the improvement exam at home only.
For admissions to class XI, school can decide it’s own criteria.
OPTIONAL BOARD EXAM: Optional board exam is on demand only. Names will be forwarded by the school for the same on written request by the parents.
APTITUDE TEST: At the end of class IX and X, CBSE offers an optional aptitude test for all the students.
Names will be forwarded by the school for the same on written request by the parents. It is not co-related with the admission in class XI.
It is meant only to know the aptitude of your child.
PROFICIENCY TEST: PROFICIENCY TEST is an optional Exam conducted by CBSE.
Names will be forwarded by the school on the request of parents. It is not co-related with the admission in class XI.
CCE CERTIFICATE: After class X, a student will by a CCE Certificate. The certificate will be filled by the student and the school. The certificate will be signed by the student, principal and Board official. It carries student’s profile, class IX performance and class X performance both the areas (scholastic and co-scholastic).
POINTS TO REMEMBER
Students should keep the record of their achievements/participation in all the activities inside or outside the school.
It is mandatory for every child to appear in both the summative exams. If for some valid reasons, one fails to appear in any summative exam, he will be given a re-test. After getting qualifying grades he/she will be promoted to the next class.
